About Linda Schweitzer
Linda Schweitzer is an American landscape painter. Her timeless landscape paintings express an intense connection to the natural world. After living most of her life in West Virginia, in 2010, she moved to California. She now lives in a loft condo near San Francisco Bay, with a Norwegian forest cat.
Her first memory, ever, is of lying in her crib watching how a beam of sunlight hitting the pattern on the crib sheet changed the apparent color. So, she was thinking like an artist from the very beginning. A third-generation artist, her life as a painter began very early, with her mother as her first teacher. She studied in art in college, but then worked at other jobs for many years. When she turned back to her first love, painting, she received a full-tuition scholarship from Scottsdale Artists' School. Over the years, she has studied with several prominent artists. Her art has been displayed in major exhibitions, and is featured in many private and public collections.
--Artist Statement--
My paintings are quiet. They don’t come into your space. Instead, they beckon you to come to them—to reflect, contemplate, remember... to walk in their fields, dip your finger in their water, rest in their cool forests, feel their sunlight on your face, to lose yourself in their silence. They are more about what is not revealed than what is shown. They are subtle, timeless, dreamlike... cool mist, sunlight on water, suspended moments, memories half-forgotten.
I begin with reality, as the jumping-off point. I build my paintings slowly, using multiple layers and glazes. They grow; one idea on top of another... each with its own history... each, an expression of gratitude for being here in this amazing and beautiful world.
